Leather Leadership Conference's Scholarship Program - FAQ

Overview

The Leather Leadership Conference, Inc. has established a fund to provide scholarships to help make it easier for individuals to attend the annual conference who might otherwise not be able to do so. With its IRS granted 501(c)(3) status, donations to the scholarship fund are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

How can I make my gift?

Contributions can be made directly through LLC's PayPal account using the id "donations@leatherleadership.org", or you may mail a check to: LLC Scholarships, c/o 4205 N Avers, Chicago IL 60618.

Is there a minimum amount?

Contributions in any amount will be accepted. Gifts less then the conference's registration fee will be pooled together. If you are interested in supporting attendance beyond the cost of conference registrations (such as hotel, travel, etc.), please write to scholarships@leatherleadership.org to discuss options.

Can I name the scholarship I am establishing?

A scholarship fund can carry the name of a donor, family, company, or someone the donor wishes to honor. Donors who prefer anonymity can choose names that reflect their fund's charitable purposes or simply choose no name. Named scholarships must be for at least the amount of conference registration.

Can I get to pick who gets the scholarship I establish?

No. LLC welcomes the suggestions of non-binding preferred demographics such as gender, ethnicity, geography, orientation (example: "If possible, I would like my scholarship to fund the registration of a lesbian of color from the West Coast"). To establish a scholarship for a specific person would not comply with IRS regulations.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

Click here and complete our simple on-line application form. Or if you prefer, send an email containing that information to scholarships@leatherleadership.org. The application process is confidential.

What will my scholarship cover?

At this stage, scholarships are only covering the cost of conference registration. If donors wish to cover other expenses such a travel, hotel, or any stipend, we welcome those contributions.

Who decides who gets a scholarship?

The LLC Scholarship Review Panel is made up of emeritus members of LLC's board. It currently consists of Jack McGeorge, Glenda Rider, John Weis, Lolita Wolf, Cynthia Wright, Libby Warren, Larry Manion and Graylin K. Thornton.

When will I know if get a scholarship?

Demand will likely exceed available funds. Applications are accepted until January 15, 2010. Those awarded will be notified by January 25, 2010.

Who will know I got a scholarship?

Only the members of the review panel. In every other respect, you will be registered and participate as any other conference member.
