"Building Diversity in Your Leather Community through Intentional Observation"

Seeing human diversity through the lens of race, gender, or sexuality is limiting and dehumanizing. In Building Diversity…, we learn how to best observe our own emotions, bodies, and language (our ontological souls) in order to be in greater control as leaders during chaotic situations. In addition, we look at diversity through the lens of how others create reality: through their natural environments, personal experiences, biology, cultures, era, and unexplainable experiences (Concentric Mythology). In this manner, as leaders, we can create diversity by paying attention to race, gender, and sexuality, but we can also lead diverse groups while still seeing individuals and creating unique experiences that not only speak to groups to which individuals belong, but also to their unique places in the world.

Dr. Nwachi Tafari (or Dr. T), a native New Yorker, has been a developmental educator for over 20 years and now is an adjunct professor of diversity, the humanities, and college success for ECPI University. He holds an Ed.D. in higher education and a Ph.D. in the human sciences with a specialization in creativity studies, with a research focus on the spiritual nature found in BDSM.He holds a certification in life coaching and is a licensed New Life Story coach. Additionally, he is currently working on a certification in sexology and life coaching. All of Dr. Tafari’s research and published work focuses on human adult development and using creativity and the arts in adult healing, learning, and cognition. Most of all, his greatest accomplishment is sharing the responsibility of rearing two daughters, De and Niani.

"Unconscious Bias"

Unconscious bias is often defined as prejudice or unsupported judgments in favor of or against one thing, person, or group, As the word unconscious suggests, it is a bias we are unaware of. These biases can hamper our ability to be effective leaders, to accept and bring people into our groups and organizations. Identifying what our own unconscious biases are, can help us be more effective leaders, allows us to better network with each other, and be able to grow our groups, organizations and the community as a whole.

Master Aaron and slave jennie have been together as Master and slave for over 13 years, they have been directing the Jacksonville MAsT chapter for almost 5 years, as well as running a local monthly BDSM group/play party focused on bringing the community together as a whole. Their local community is very unique as it is home to one of the largest Military bases on the east coast. This means that it is very transient, and most people do not live in the area for more than 2-3 years. Master Aaron and slave jennie have the unique challenge of keeping their MAsT chapter and BDSM event going without the benefit of a strong permanent base due to the transient nature of where they live.
